How you can get €125 back with Stay & Spend

Reliefs and expenses

October 12, 2020

The Stay & Spend Scheme lets you claim 20% back on restaurants, accommodation listed with Failte Ireland, and non-alcoholic drinks—up to €125 per person (or €250 if you’re jointly assessed).

What counts and how much you can claim

– Spend at least €25 in one go—each transaction counts toward the total.
– Spend up to €625: you’ll get 20% back, so €625 spent = €125 tax credit.
– Spend less than €625? You still get 20% back on the full amount you spend.

When the scheme was active

The scheme initially applied to spending between 1 October 2020 & 30 April 2021, and could be claimed until 31 December 2024.

This has been extended to qualifying expenses incurred between 1 January 2021 & 30 April 2021, and is still available to be claimed until 31 December 2025.

How to claim

– If you’re an umbrella company director, just include it in your income return.
– PAYE umbrella contractors and others can submit the tax credit via a Form 12 or their annual return.
– Remember: keep all receipts: they’re required for proof and can be submitted using the Revenue Receipts Tracker app.

– For money spent between 1 January 2021 and 30 April 2021, you must claim the tax credit by 31 December 2025
