Q&A with Philip Lyons

Meet Philip Lyons, Director of Quality and Continuous Improvement. Philip has been with Fenero for over a decade, growing from junior accountant to his current position. He shares what he enjoys most about his role and how he sees the future of contracting in Ireland.

First, tell us a little bit about yourself

Well, I’m a very proud Dub – born and raised. I’m an even prouder dad of two twin boys who are in secondary school. They came into my life with a bang in 2010. almost 15 years ago. These days I coach their football team which I love. To be honest, I’m probably more competitive than they are. I am also a Manchester United supporter and an avid pickleball player. So, life is very busy, but it’s brilliant.

You’ve worked with us at Fenero for over 10 years. What’s the journey been like so far?

When I joined Fenero, I was a newly qualified accountant. Over the years, I’ve been lucky to take on a variety of roles which gave me a broad view of how the company works. Today, as Director of Quality and Continuous Improvement, I focus on making sure our processes and client experience are the best they can be.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I’ve always loved being a problem solver. Every client situation is different, and I enjoy figuring out the best solution for each one.

Another aspect I really value is the team environment at Fenero. Working alongside colleagues who are equally motivated and client-focused makes the job rewarding.

“Every client situation is different, and I enjoy figuring out the best solution for each one.”

There’s a genuine sense of collaboration here – we share knowledge and learn from each other every day.

What do you see as the main challenges and opportunities for contractors in the coming years?

One challenge is that the tax landscape continues to evolve. Rules can change quickly, so contractors need to stay informed and work with advisors who understand the details. At the same time, there are great opportunities: demand for skilled contractors in Ireland remains strong, and more people are choosing contracting as a career.

Technology is also changing the way we work. Tools that make administration easier allow contractors to focus on their projects and clients, while still keeping on top of compliance.

We’re committed to helping contractors navigate these changes with confidence, so they can focus on what they do best.
